THE JEROME ROBBINS NEW ESSENTIAL (NEW) WORKS PROGRAM
The Jerome Robbins New Essential Works (NEW) Program sought to support crucial dance elements during the financial crisis, from 2009 through 2013. In the belief that new work must be created to help dance companies and dance as a field remain a viable and relevant part of the American arts sector, the NEW program provided for the commissioning of new dance works and endeavored to foster networking of these new works amongst dance companies and presenters to engage a larger audience.
In Jerome Robbins name, grants were awarded to companies, presenting organizations, and in certain cases to individual choreographers. These grants supported the creation of new works intended to help the art form weather recent challenges, thereby securing its future creative purpose.
Grantees were indentified by a nominating panel led by Program Director Damian Woetzel and the Directors of The Jerome Robbins Foundation.
